Brock Davis and the woman whose champagne I was supposed to get stood only a few feet from us. Both with their hands crossed over their chests. They had ditched their masks and were now glaring at us. We’d definitely been caught and we were definitely in deep shit.

A Few Minutes Later

Wes

We were all led into a small room down one of the long hallways. I had no idea what it was actually supposed to be used for. I just knew that it was painted red and Valerie and I stood in front of Brock Davis while he sat on leather chaise.

I wasn’t one of those kids who spent a lot of time in the principal’s office in school or got reprimanded at work, but I’m sure none of those things felt like this. This felt more like I was about to get shot and killed. As far out as we were in the desert, I’m sure the powerful guy could have killed us and no one would have ever found us.

“So, which one of you is going to tell me what happened?” Brock asked, raising an eyebrow as he steepled his fingers.

Val and I looked at each other. I didn’t even know what the hell I should have said. I didn’t know where to begin.

“Should I just bring Cal in and ask him what the hell he was thinking by hiring a bunch of incompetent people who couldn’t listen to directions? Maybe I should get rid of him as well.”

“No!” Valerie yelled, stepping forward with her eyes wide.

Brock gave her a tight-lipped smile. “So now she speaks. “Tell me...” His eyes raked over her and lingered way too long on her chest. My hands involuntarily clenched into fists, feeling protective. I hoped he wouldn’t try anything with her. We were in a hell of a lot of trouble anyway, so if I had to knock the guy out, then I would. “What happened to make you disobey my rules?”

She sighed. “I was just trying to get my husband back.”

He pointed to me but his gaze stayed on Valerie. “And this man is your husband?”

“Yes, sir.” She nodded.

“I can’t say I’m not surprised by that one.”

“I know. It’s hard to believe that I’m married to the Greek God looking guy and I’ve got all of this.” She ran a hand down her side, emphasizing her curves.

Brock shook his head laughing slightly. “You don’t give yourself enough credit, my dear. I was pointing out that you looked like the more put-together one. I actually thought you were a guest at my party until Bianca pointed out otherwise.”

“Seriously?” She exhaled a deep breath followed by a slight giggle.

I just shook my head; for someone who exuded so much confidence, the girl definitely had no idea how much she had going for her. I knew it. I knew that people looked at me like I wasn’t good enough for her and I didn’t need Brock Davis to tell me that.

“Of course. The shoes, the hair, the air of confidence like you own the world.
